We were asked by Graffiti Recordings and Anglo management to art direct and design the visual output for the Stereo MCs new album campaign and singles. And we said yes please. The brief was to create a coherent series of sleeves and supporting material referencing both the bands dub roots and their embracing of modern electronic music and production techniques. Our research into iconic sound system imagery and early screen-printed dub sleeves led to the a series of images linked by circular motifs. ——

'Hotplate' 12″ sleeve.
The name 'Hotplate' is industry slang for an early pressing of a record. We took a literal approach for this project, with the result both playing on the name and acting as a lo-fi teaser for the album artwork. Photo by Ben Strebel. ——

'Black Gold' 12″ sleeve.
For the first single released from the album we laser cut our Stereo MCs custom title font from black gloss perspex and photographed it dripping with oil. Photo by Guy Archard. ——
