We were asked by Graffiti Recordings and Anglo management to art direct and design the visual output for the Stereo MCs new album campaign and singles. And we said yes please.
The brief was to create a coherent series of sleeves and supporting material referencing both the bands dub roots and also their embracing of modern electronic music and production techniques. Our research into iconic sound system imagery and early low quality screen-printed dub sleeves led to a series of designs linked by circular motifs. For the album cover concentric rings in an updated dub colourway were purposely offset to create a moiré effect. The CD booklet is a 6 page concertina fold, on one side photos of the band members were coloured and layered up with a pattern of lines. All the track listings were type set running along the same patterns of lines and coloured in keeping with the portraits on the reverse side. A suitably heavy typeface and dense typesetting was used across all releases, promos and tour visuals.
