Rachel Howard

Published by Blain|Southern, Rachel Howard is a 224pp book that offers the first comprehensive overview of the artists practice to date, presenting the chronological development of her paintings and drawings.
With an introduction by Louisa Elderton, an interview by Martin Gayford and essays by Mario Codognato and Cressida Connelly.
Our design picked up on the references to religious/devotional art in a lot of the works and was printed with a 5th wine/blood colour that was used for end papers, section dividers and image captions. This was carried through to the design with very deep margins and justified essays hand intended to slow down the reading of both the text and the images and evoke the precious quality and craft in illuminated manuscripts. The book is cloth covered, case bound and foil with wine coloured type that feels suitably monumental.
