The album, ‘All Night Cinema’, had been written with each track being about, or from the perspective of, a different character, this coupled with the title suggested the idea.
In our design for the album we established the idea of a collection of people observing life/stories as if watching a film. For the single covers the concept was the reverse view; instead of seeing the characters we see what they see and the environment that their story would inhabit. So for ‘Embers’, a track about a businessman stifled by a 9-5 routine, we took a photograph of an empty train carriage with sunlight pouring through the windows. As with the album we combined these images with a simple heavy redrawn logotype and set all the booklet copy in a centred block to create an old film poster feel.
