HK119

HK119 is the alter ego of Finnish multimedia artist, singer and recording artist Heidi Kilpeläinen. Championed by Bjork, and later signed to her label One Little Indian, she combines illustration, ceramic art, video, print making and clothing into her performances and on meeting her and being shown this broad and incredible output we knew we had to find a way to incorporate all of these facets into one package.

A dense topsy-turvy collage of geological photography features several rocky apertures each revealing a still taken from videos (made by HK119) and framing a lead image shot by the acclaimed Mark Lebon. Hidden amongst this are smaller images of her ceramic works many of which seem to have faces and suggest a sub-level of life existing in this strange other-world. The collage became a poster that is only found in its entirety, within the CD.
A series of heavy black lines frame track titles set in a simple typewriter font, and represent a digital and graphic counter point to the natural world. Like the game ‘snake’ they wind across the back of the sleeve and inner sleeves like digital stalactites. For an album described as ‘plastic nature music’ we could have only chosen a bright green colour for the vinyl.
