Francesco Clemente

“Mandala for Crusoe” brought together a series of 14 large scale paintings in which Clemente continues to merge eastern and western imagery and mythology. Clemente’s painterly language is rooted in the fresco’s of the Italian Renaissance and this can be seen in the granular application of paint, colour palette and story telling within the works. We set the information in a font with tapered spur-serifs that mirrored the loose strokes in the work and suited the monumental stature of both work and artist. A key painting was used for the Private View invites and printed on thick uncoated card, whilst the After Party took inspiration from the geometry found within mandala paintings to provide folds and we created this small delicate invite that once unravelled revealed a glossy golden interior with the dinner details.
