Eurban 1:1

To mark Eurban’s 10th year we designed an exhibition and a publication that stood alone as a survey of their field and used some of their key projects to articulate the issues. The title “Eurban 1:1” refers to architectural scale as well as splits the two (equal) sides of their business apart: construction and supply of the cross laminated pine material. We designed two books, WORK and BUILT, that come wrapped by a durable belly band around a screen printed pine block.

The BUILT book featuring a collection of photographs from their 10 years (pine forests, cross-lam factories, building sites and some of their finished structures and interiors) uses a very simple grid and caption that allows the images to suggest a story. The WORK book takes in a wider survey of timber as a material, the construction industry, the carbon cycle and show cases a few key projects that were built by Eurban in the UK. The modular grid of this book takes its cue from the apertures seen in the ready made panels that are assembled on site. Both books have an exposed bind that reveals their structure and when wrapped around the screen printed pine block the three items resemble the cross laminated pine material. The title is printed onto a textured laminated belly band, whist both WORK and BUILT are debossed into both covers with only one picked out in colour, again to represent the two equal/opposing sides to their business.
